July 2026 Newsletter | Simple Business SolutionsFrom Byron & Tasha Burrell
Hello Friends,
July is here, and that means summer is in full swing! It’s the season of cookouts, fireworks, swimming, camping, beach trips, and trying to decide whether watermelon belongs at every meal. (We vote yes.)
As we celebrate the heart of summer, we also want to share a few helpful reminders, a meaningful awareness spotlight, and one of Tasha’s summertime favorites from the kitchen.
🌟 July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month
Many people think of arthritis as something that only affects older adults, but children and teens can face it too. As we focus on Juvenile Arthritis Awareness, it's helpful to highlight the challenges of treating arthritis in children and teens and to support advocacy for families walking through it. The Arthritis Foundation notes that the purpose of this month is to raise awareness that kids get arthritis too and to shine a light on the challenges they face.
Did You Know?
The CDC estimates that about 220,000 children and adolescents under age 18 in the United States have diagnosed arthritis, which equals about 305 per 100,000 children and teens.
The CDC also found that arthritis rates were highest among youth ages 12–17, at 592 per 100,000.
According to NIAMS, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common type of chronic arthritis in children, and in some cases it can be a lifelong disease. NIAMS also notes that early medical care matters because delaying treatment can lead to joint damage and other complications.
Families facing juvenile arthritis often deal with more than joint pain. There can also be challenges with school, activities, fatigue, doctor visits, medications, and emotional stress. This month is a good reminder to support affected children and encourage families who may need answers to seek early care and encouragement.

Ingredients
2 cans pork and beans
1 cup smoked sausage, sliced
1 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 bell pepper, chopped

In a separate pan, sauté the onion, bell pepper, and smoked sausage.

🧴 Summer Sunshine Smarts: Protect Your Skin
Summer fun is better when we protect our skin.
The FDA says that broad-spectrum sunscreen helps protect against sunburn, skin cancer, early skin aging, and other risks of overexposure to the sun. The FDA recommends using broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, applying it 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapplying at least every two hours, especially if you are swimming or sweating.
Helpful Sunscreen Tips
✅ Use broad-spectrum sunscreen
✅ Choose SPF 15 or higher
✅ Apply 15 minutes before going outside
✅ Reapply every 2 hours
✅ Don’t forget easy-to-miss spots like ears, back of neck, hands, and tops of feet.
And remember: sunscreen works much better on your skin than sitting unopened in the beach bag.
😎 Don’t Forget Your Eyes
Your skin isn’t the only thing that needs protection in the summer — your eyes do too.
The National Eye Institute says UV rays can damage the eyes. NEI notes that prolonged UV exposure is linked to cataracts, eyelid cancers, and may increase the risk for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
NEI also explains that some contact lenses block UV, but they do not cover the whole eye area, so it is still wise to wear UV-blocking sunglasses.
Simple Eye Protection Tips
Wear sunglasses labeled 99%–100% UVA/UVB protection or UV400
Add a wide-brimmed hat for extra shade
Encourage children to protect their eyes too
Keep sunglasses in the car, beach bag, or by the front door so they’re easy to grab
A good pair of sunglasses protects your eyes and makes you look like you have your life together — even if you’re still looking for the car keys.
